In 1946, the Malek Theater ‘Iowas Finest Theater,’ opened its doors to anxiously awaiting patrons. It was billed as the most beautiful theatre in the state. The building is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Many of us have fantastic memories at the Malek theater. Now is your chance to help create memories for a younger generation. The funds raised from these t-shirt sales will be used to finance early stages of restoration in the theater.

After nearly a month in Mexico riding motorcycles and documenting the infamous Baja 1000 off-road race, Justin and Kyra have returned to the States with a plethora of photos and exciting stories of their misadventures. A dozen images from their journey down the Baja peninsula will be on display at The One Motorcycle Show in Portland, OR this weekend. Each of these limited-edition prints tells a unique tale of their trip, and were resin coated onto a particle-board mounting system by Panda Lab in Seattle.

WESTx1000 was conceived in a coin-op laundry room in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles. What started as an excuse to ride dirt bikes in Baja, has become an online portal into the lives of two overzealous individuals, love drunk and eager for their next (motorcycle?) adventure.

Documenting the infamous Baja 1000 off-road race, exploring the backroads of the Pacific Northwest, circumnavigating Japan on small sport bikes, or riding dual-sports from Barstow to Vegas, the idea stays the same: “If you get far enough away you’ll be on your way back home.” – Tom Waits

When Michael Law opened Bourbon & Bones, a custom smoke shack whose fragrant fumes add a whole new scent to the Frelard neighborhood, he brought this love of fusion food with him. Inspired by his Dominican mother, Law’s style of cooking fits somewhere between BBQ, Cajun, American and Creole. Before it opened, Law had a 10-foot-long, 10-foot-high walk-in smokehouse custom-built for Bourbon & Bones. Smoking his own meat, Law uses everything available; the end pieces of the brisket are chopped and added to the baked beans and the collard greens, as an example. In addition to the Dominican meets Southern style grub available at Bourbon & Bones, you will find just about every kind of bourbon on the shelf. Offering over 90 different spirits, as well as moonshine on tap, signature cocktails and tasting flights, Michael Law and his crew have created something special. This isn’t a roadside BBQ shack, this is whiskey, brisket, collard greens, pork shoulder and sweet heat ribs served Southern style!

Little Bird Therapies has a snazzy new website. You should check it out. Jessica Chung opened Little Bird Therapies in 2011, after working for over a year as the only Structural Medicine Specialist in a busy occupational therapy clinic. She is dedicated to creating a collaboration between traditional medicine and alternative treatment modalities. Her personal motivation rests in her own journey with mending chronic pain as well as a desire to be of service to others.
